The Life Lessons of Living Faith
"These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth." (Heb. 11:13)
As we journey through this incredible chapter on faith in Hebrews 11, also known as "The Hall of Faith", we need to remember that these men and women were ordinary people with the same worldly problems, personal weakness, and spiritual and emotional challenges that we all carry with us today. God is calling us to join this company of faith.
One of the major life lessons we need to understand if we are ever to truly begin our journey of faith toward the glory of God is the realization that life is NOT ABOUT US but ALL ABOUT GOD and OTHERS and HIS PURPOSE for our lives.
We all need to get to the place where we are reduced to "zero" that we might realize we have nothing to offer God but our FULL SURRENDER and TRUST in Him alone.
It is good when we admit that we are weak, and remember that HE IS STRONG. We need to acknowledge that we are limited in power but that GOD CAN DO ALL THINGS. We must know that ONLY HE KNOWS and IS WORKING ALL THINGS TOGETHER FOR OUR GOOD AND HIS GLORY!
Many people miss fulfilling God's purpose for their lives because they are not willing to let go of their own selfish desires and dreams. We have to learn early on that we cannot attain new ground with God until we first leave behind the former ground of self reliance that we came from. Even Abraham, our father of faith, was called to leave his family of idolatry to step out into the unknown with the living God leading the way.
Are you holding back anything from God? Are you allowing Him lead your life?
There is a great adventure waiting for us all on the other side of getting over our self!
We all must learn to have living faith in the living God if He is to govern and guide our lives just as He pleases in according with His greater purpose and glory. "...So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham"(Gal. 3:9).
Would God be able to put the word "believing" in front of your name at this time?
According to Scripture, our faith can be either DEAD or ALIVE, based upon whether we are willing to obey what God commands and has made known to us.It is not enough to simply believe that God exists or that He has merely done certain things.
Remember what James says: "You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect?"(James 2:19-22).
LET US, therefore, COMMIT TO LEARNING THESE 10 LIFE LESSONS on Living Faith:
LIVING FAITH LESSON #1
Faith RECEIVES what God achieves, and then OBEYS what God conveys.
Matthew 4:4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”
LIVING FAITH LESSON #2
Obedience often requires us to LEAVE a familiar place of CONVENIENCE for the unchartered path of INFLUENCE.
Acts 9:6 So he, trembling and astonished, said, “Lord, what do You want me to do?”
Then the Lord said to him, “Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”
LIVING FAITH LESSON #3
God often gives us JUST ENOUGH LIGHT for us to see and take our next step of obedience.
Psalm 37:23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way.
LIVING FAITH LESSON #4
Faith expectantly WAITS for God to fulfill what we cannot accomplish by our will.
Psalm 37:5 Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.
LIVING FAITH LESSON #5
Faith trusts the SOURCE of the Promise more than the SIZE of the Problem.
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
LIVING FAITH LESSON #6
Faith RAISES US UP to a heavenly reality to RELEASE OUR GRIP on an earthly mentality.
Colossians 3:1-2 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
LIVING FAITH LESSON #7
Faith releases our control and resolves to LET GOD SOLVE the seeming contradiction.
Job 23:10 But He knows the way that I take; When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold.
FAITH PRINCIPLE #8
Faith allows God to INTERRUPT our plans for Him to INTERPRET the final outcome.
Proverbs 16:9 A man’s heart plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps.
LIVING FAITH LESSON #9
Faith retraces how God has worked in the past reminding us the first will be last.
Psalm 77:10 And I said, “This is my anguish; But I will remember the years of the right hand of the Most High.”
LIVING FAITH LESSON #10
Faith confirms the WORD of His promise by carrying out the WORK of His purpose.
Psalm 73:28 "But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, That I may declare all Your works."
Let us be assured of every promise of God and embrace them as if our lives depended on it...because when it comes to faith, we are called to live in light of God's promises and purposes so that our faith can go from death to life.
Our LIVING FAITH is shown by OUR OBEDIENCE which leads to OUR INFLUENCE throughout this world FOR HIS GLORY!
LET US PRAY…
"Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning,
For in You do I trust; Cause me to know the way in which I should walk,
For I lift up my soul to You" (Psa. 143:8)
