Jesus, The Author of Our Salvation
"But we see Jesus...For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings." (Hebrews 2:9-10)
Over the years, people have authored many of their own stories and many have even tried to be the captain of their own destiny. However, it is of utmost importance that we hand the pen over to God, since He alone authors our lives and has chosen to write us into His story. Since Jesus is the Author of creation as well as the Author of salvation, let us humbly anchor ourselves in Christ alone...knowing that all other ground is sinking sand!
In order for us to rightly align our hearts with the Lord, we must understand that our singular contribution to our salvation is knowing that we are sinful and are in need of a Savior. We must look away from anything else that we might put our trust in and let God's Word guide our every decision.
Once we hear the words of God, we must pay close attention to what He said and whether we are obeying His voice lest we drift away and find ourselves far from the will of God in our lives only to be sifted by the enemy of our souls.
The writer of Hebrews exhorts the believer to "give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away" (Heb. 2:1) and to be sure that we do not "neglect (or make light of) so great a salvation" (2:3). What may seem like a small compromise now always ends up being a major problem over time when there is no course correction.
James 1:21-22 says, "Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls."
Since Jesus became a man in order to die for man, we must see that He willfully laid down His will and made Himself a little lower than the angels before He was perfected through suffering. This is the way of the cross for all who believe and now we are to follow in Christ's loving and sacrificial example.
The Marvelous Means of Salvation
How amazing it is that "both He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified are all of one, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren" (2:11). If we started off looking to Christ for our salvation, how can we look anywhere else for our sanctification.
It is through our humble service and obedience to God that we will be fully pleasing to Him and live in light of the victory that He has already won for us. Jesus gave His all and paid it all and now it is our privilege to let Him write our story and spend our all for Him!
THIS WEEK’S “New Covenant” EXHORTATION:
We are to let go of our rights and to SEE JESUS as the Author of our Salvation who holds the pen to accomplish all of His purpose in our lives…For He is bringing heaven down to the earth, and bringing us into perfect harmony with God.

The Marvelous Means of Salvation
- In INCARNATION, He took on “flesh and blood” as a Man (v.14)
- In CRUCIFIXION, He “tasted death for everyone” and “destroyed the devil” (v.9, 14)
- In RESURRECTION, He “brought many sons to glory” forming His Church (v.10)
- In ASCENSION (EXALTATION), He was “crowned with glory and honor” (v.9)
