Jesus, The Forever Faithful One
"Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus, who was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was faithful in all His house." - Hebrews 3:1-2
What does it mean to be faithful?
Faithfulness is about being trustworthy and reliable and about executing God's Word in fullness. There have been those who were faithful for a period of time but then, for various reasons, they stopped being faithful and did not finish well. David once prayed, "Help, Lord, for the godly man ceases for the faithful disappear from among the sons of men" (Ps. 12:1).
The writer of Hebrews points out the faithfulness of Moses when it came to delivering God's people and setting up the Tabernacle, but even Moses would fail to lead the children of Israel into the Promise Land. He started well, performed well, but he did not finish so well.
Only One Man was faithful to do all that God entrusted to Him and that was Jesus who faithfully did all that the Father gave Him to do and through His sacrificial death birthed God's eternal house and is still building the Church in order to bring many sons to glory.
According to God's great faithfulness, we who have believed in Christ have become "holy brethren" and "partakers of the heavenly calling", which means that we participate in the Lord's kingdom expression and expansion today. We are able to build with the Lord as we make disciples and grow His church.
1 Corinthians 1:9 says, "God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord." Everything begins by considering Jesus and trusting in His goodness and faithfulness and then living in light of all that He is and does.
Would you say that you are being faithful with God has entrusted to you? Are you looking at every area of your life and looking to honor God and bless and serve those around you?
“Therefore know that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments" (Deut. 7:9)
God has invited us to be partakers and participants of His heavenly kingdom which has already come and yet is expanding to this earth until Christ comes back and brings it in fullness. As we seek first the kingdom, others may see the kingdom for the first time. The kingdom is here and yet not fully here until Christ comes back and brings it in fullness.
As a FAITHFUL Apostle and High Priest, CHRIST is our FIRM FOUNDATION, the CHIEF CORNERSTONE, and we are His living stones, "in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit" (Eph. 2:21-22)
Since we are God's building and God's builders, we must be take heed how we build and how we daily behold the Lord. The Apostle Paul writes the Corinthians and explains this to them when he says:
"For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building. According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ" (1 Cor. 3:9-11)
Therefore, let us “hold fast the confidence” and rejoicing in the hope firm to the end” and let us learn to be faithful even in the smallest tasks the Lord gives us to do...until we hear Him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant...enter into the joy of your Lord" (Matt. 25:21).
May we say COME, Lord Jesus come! ...and may we BECOME more like Jesus today, knowing that each act of righteousness is building the testimony of Christ and His kingdom.
